Binns, Nesbitt, Murphy, and Kavanagh named to Spalding Cup Staff

The Ontario Football Alliance is pleased to announce Jon Binns, Matthew Nesbitt, Devin Murphy, and Devin Kavanagh have been added to the Spalding Cup Coaching Staff.

SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR & OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Jon Binns - Windsor Lancers



Jon Binns is currently the Special Teams Coordinator for the Windsor Lancers. Also currently, Binns is the Head Coach of the Peewee Essex Ravens. Binns has also spent time with the Windsor AKO Fratmen as Special Teams Coordinator, as well as Catholic Central Secondary School as Defensive Coordinator. 

OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Matthew Nesbitt - Guelph Gryphons



Matthew Nesbitt is currently the Head Coach & Defensive Coordinator of the Guelph Jr. Varsity Gryphons of the OFC. Before his time with the Jr. Varsity Gryphons, Nesbitt was the Defensive Line Coach for the London Jr. Mustangs Junior Varisty team in 2013. As well as coaching, Nesbitt is currently the starting Centre for the University of Guelph Gryphons. Nesbitt was named a 2014 First Team OUA All-Star, as well winning the Tom Mooney Lineman of the Year award. 

DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Devin Murphy - Ottawa Gee Gee's



Devin Murphy is currently the Defensive Coordinator for the Ottawa Gee Gee's. Murphy was hired as the Gee-Gees defensive coordinator in February of 2013. Murphy played for uOttawa from 2001-05 as a defensive back and joined the coaching staff the following season, becoming a well-respected defensive backs coach. He then moved to St. Mary’s in 2008 where he served three seasons as defensive backs coach before becoming defensive coordinator in 2011. In each of his two seasons as defensive coordinator, the Huskies defence posted CIS top five statistics in yards per game and points per game allowed.  Murphy, who is from Ottawa, also coached the defensive backs for Football Canada’s 2012 U20 Junior National Team which won the gold at the IFAF Junior World Championship in Austin, Texas.

DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Devin Kavanagh - Guelph Gryphons



Devin Kavanagh is currently the Defensive Backs Coach for the Guelph Gryphons. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Devin attended Champlain College in Quebec where he earned a Liberal Arts degree.  He continued his post-secondary education at the University of British Columbia, graduating with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in psychology. While at the University of British Columbia Devin played football, and was a 4-year Defensive Captain and a 2011 Hardy Cup finalist.  He was also honoured three times with the Frank Knupp award for being the most inspirational player.  In 2007 he obtained the title of CJFL Defensive Player of the Year.
