Canada Cup Coaching Staff

HEAD COACH: Glen Mills - Essex Ravens

          

Glen Mills will once again return as Head Coach of Team Ontario as they look to defend there 2014 National Championship. Mills is currently the Head Coach of the Perennial Powerhouse Essex Ravens, a position he has held since 1998, leading the team to 6 championship appearances, winning in 1998, 2002, and 2010. In 2014, Mills led Team Ontario to a 36-0 win over Nova Scotia, a 30-16 win over Quebec, and defeated the home town Team Saskatchewan 27-19 to capture Ontario's first National Championship since 2004. In 2013, Mills led Team Ontario to a bronze medal in Moncton, New Brunswick.    Mills was an assistant coach with Team Ontario from 2002 to 2009 winning 3 National Championships.  Mill’s championship winning pedigree is sure to help this year’s squad in winning the Football Canada Cup.

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR: Chris Bertoia - Waterloo Warriors

                  

Chris Bertoia is currently the Head Coach and Manager of Football Operations of the Waterloo Warriors. Before his time with Waterloo, Bertoia was the Recruiting Coordinator and Offensive Line coach for the Western Mustangs. In 2012, Bertoia was the OVFL Coach of the Year as head coach of the London Jr. Mustangs that went undefeated, winning the OVFL Championship in the team’s inaugural season.  Bertoia was the offensive line coach for Team Ontario West in 2010 and was the offensive coordinator in 2012 for Ontario West and Team Ontario for 2013.  Bertoia’s tireless work ethic and dedication to his players and preparation are invaluable assets to this year’s offense.

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR: Rob Underhill - McMaster Marauders

  

Rob Underhill is currently the Special Teams Coordinator for the McMaster Marauders. In 2014, Underhill led the Hamilton Hurricanes to Back to Back Undefeted Championship Seasons. Underhill has been the Head Coach of Team Ontario, leading the team to two bronze medals during his tenure.  Underhill was the Head Coach & Defensive Coordinator for the OVFL Hamilton Ironmen, building them into a perennial top ranked team that was known for its tough defense. Underhill is a valuable component of this coaching staff with his wealth of experience and leadership at the Canada Cup.

SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR & DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Bill Brown - Guelph Gryphons

                    

Bill Brown is currently the Special Forces Coordinator and Director of Recruiting & Football Development for the Guelph Gryphons.  Brown has helped guide the Gryphons to 21-3 regular season record since 2012, and Yates Cup appearances in 2012 and 2014. Brown has coached the special teams for Ontario West since 2010 and is poised for a successful 2015 campaign.  Brown’s game planning and ability to motivate his players are key attributes sure to bolster a successful special teams squad in 2015.

OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Tom Flaxman - Western Mustangs

 

Tom Flaxman is currently an Asisstant Coach for the Western Mustangs. Previously, Flaxman was the Offensive Coordinator for Toronto Varsity Blues, as well as the Acadia Axemen that won the Atlantic title in 2011.  In addition, Flaxman has been a coach with the OVFL Mississauga Warriors since 2004, winning 3 championships.  Flaxman was a player for Team Ontario on the gold medal winning teams in 2002 & 2003. 

OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Jean-Philippe Asselin - Carleton Ravens



JP is currently the Offensive Coordinator for the Carleton Ravens. In 2014, JP helped lead Carleton to a 4-4 record in only their second season with a primarily sophomore aged team. Previous to his time with Carleton, JP was Head Coach of the Ottawa Gee Gee's for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. In 2010, JP guided the Gee Gee's to a Yates Cup Final. Prior to becoming Head Coach, JP was the Assistant Offensive Coordinator from 2008-2009. 

DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT: Donnavan Carter - Windsor Lancers



Donnavan is currently the Associate Head Coach & Defensive Coordinator of the Windsor Lancers. Carter helped lead the Lancers to a 5-3 overall record, and 3rd Ranked OUA Defense. Before joining the Lancers in 2013, Carter coached with the Toronto Varsity Blues for 4 seasons. Prior to joining the Varsity Blues, Carter played professional football in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Over his eight year CFL career, Carter was a starter at the safety and linebacker positions with the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Renegades, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. As team captain for the Renegades in 2003, he was selected as a Canadian Football League Players Association all-star at the free safety position. Also an experienced coach in the junior football ranks, Carter previously served as the defensive coordinator with the Etobicoke Eagles of the Ontario Varsity Football League where the team qualified for the regional championships.  
 
Support Staff & Athletic Therapist
 

GENERAL MANAGER: Tina Turner

Tina is currently the Executive Director for the Ontario Football Alliance. Away from the OFA, Tina is currently the President for Guelph Minor Football, a position she has held for over 20 years. 

EQUIPMENT MANAGER: Josh Prior

Josh is currently the Marketing Director for the Ontario Football Alliance. Josh has been on the Team Ontario Support Staff for the past two years. Away from the OFA, Josh is currently the Special Teams Coordinator with the Guelph Varsity Gryphons of the OFC, as well as the Defensive Coordinator of the St. James Lions located in Guelph. Previous to his time with the Lions, Josh spent 1 season with the University of Guelph Gryphons as an Assistant Defensive Back Coach, as well as 3 seasons with the John F. Ross Royals as the Defensive Back Coach. 

ATHLETIC THERAPIST: Nicole Allen

Nicki is a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and the Ontario Athletic Therapist Association since 2013. Nicki graduated from McMaster University in 2009 with an Honors Bachelor of Kinesiology with a Minor in Health Studies. She continued her education at Sheridan College, completing the Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences Degree in Athletic Therapy with honors in 2013. As a student, Nicki worked at the University of Guelph with the Varsity football, women’s volleyball and women’s rugby teams, winning a Rugby CIS National Championship in 2011. She also had the opportunity to work as an Athletic Therapy Intern for the Toronto Argonauts Football Club in their 2012 Grey Cup winning season. She has also worked with numerous local high school and club rugby, hockey, football and wrestling teams.
